Celebrate World Animal Day with Animal Aware
The Mission of World Animal Day is to end animal cruelty by raising the status of animals in order to advance welfare standards around the globe. Celebrating this special day unites the animal welfare movement around the globe, embracing all animals and the unique concerns of each in every country.
Animal Aware is a non-profit, NGO based in Sumpango, Guatemala. For over 25 years we have been working through education and spay/neuter campaigns to improve the lives of domestic animals in Guatemala. We run one of Central America’s largest rescue shelters, caring for around 300 dogs and 70 cats. All of our rescue animals are treated, vaccinated and spayed/neutered before they are up for adoption. Every month we run low cost spay/neuter clinics for pets and also for street dogs to combat the increase in population and subsequent suffering of a life on the streets.
Your contribution will go to help those who do not have a voice. Unfortunately in Guatemala animals are generally seen as just to be used for a purpose such as food, guarding property, carrying loads or as a status symbol. This lack of compassion leads many animals to be neglected or mistreated. Animal Aware continuously works with the local communities through education and rescue programs to care for, protect and improve the lives of domestic animals.
Through our hard work over the years we have seen positive changes to the attitudes towards animals. For example people now actively bring their pets to be vaccinated and spayed or neutered, the community rescues distressed or injured animals, bringing them to the shelter for treatment. Also there is greater awareness of animal welfare and fixing the street dogs to control their population.
Yet there is still much to do! With your help we can continue to educate people and provide help for suffering animals.
By contributing to this campaign you will be investing in the future and improving the lives of not only the animals but also the community, helping people care for their pets properly and combat problems associated with street dog populations in the towns and villages.
Our vision is of a land where dignity, and respect for all of life have replaced man’s cruelty and ignorance.
Every donation makes a real difference. Your donation will go towards essential operational costs enabling us to run the shelter, feed and care for the animals, ensure safe secure enclosures for them until they are adopted, continue promoting animal welfare and providing clinics for the local community pets, and spay/neuter clinics to combat the increase and reduce the suffering of the street animals.
Please help us improve the lives of domestic animals in Guatemala!
